Serverless Development
Your applications should grow to handle any spike and shrink to near-zero cost when traffic is quiet — without you managing a single server. That is the real promise of serverless, and it is achievable. What most teams discover too late is that the infrastructure overhead does not disappear with serverless; it moves — from CPU provisioning and patch management into billing alerts, cold-start tuning, and distributed failure modes you have never seen before.
Facet Interactive has been delivering serverless development services since 2014. We build on AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB; Azure Functions; and GCP Cloud Functions — and then we run what we build. Our agentic operating model means your serverless environment is monitored, cost-reviewed, and iterated continuously through measured Agent Loops, not handed off after a launch call.

The Problem With "Build It And Leave" Serverless
Most serverless engagements end at deployment. The agency ships the function code, wires up the triggers, and moves to the next project. Then the real work begins — on your side.
Unwatched serverless is a surprise invoice waiting to happen. A misconfigured retry policy loops a Lambda function ten thousand times against a downstream API that's timing out. DynamoDB on-demand pricing spikes during a flash sale nobody warned the billing team about. A cold-start cascade turns a twelve-millisecond p50 into a four-second p99 for the users who matter most.
Serverless is not "no ops." It is different ops. The bill and the failure modes just move. The teams that win with serverless are the ones running continuous feedback loops around cost, errors, and latency — not the ones who deployed and declared victory.
That distinction — between building serverless and operating it as a living system — is the spine of our practice.
How We Deliver Serverless Development Services
Architecture That Earns Its Cost At Every Scale
We begin every engagement with an architecture consultation scoped to your traffic patterns, data access needs, and budget constraints. Before a single function is written, we model how costs behave across your realistic load range — from overnight quiet to peak-day volume.
This framing matters because serverless pricing is non-linear. To illustrate the math (not a guarantee for your workload): a naive implementation that calls a downstream service synchronously on every invocation might cost 4-8x more per transaction than one that batches through SQS. We find those patterns in design, not in production.
Platforms we architect on:
- AWS: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge, Step Functions, S3
- Azure: Azure Functions, Service Bus, Cosmos DB, Event Grid, Logic Apps
- GCP: Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Firestore, Cloud Tasks
Our 40-person team spans 9 timezones, meaning your architecture review, build, and monitoring are staffed without forcing an overnight handoff to someone who has never seen your environment.
The Agent Loop Model — Serverless Built And Kept Running
Facet operates on what we call Agent Loops: continuous, closed feedback cycles that deploy, measure, and iterate without requiring you to manage the cadence. For serverless, three loops run in parallel after launch:
Deploy Loop — every infrastructure change (new functions, updated IAM roles, routing changes) flows through a tested pipeline before touching production. No manual SSH. No "we'll fix it in the next sprint."
Monitor-and-Cost Loop — we instrument every function for invocation count, error rate, duration, and concurrency. Cost anomalies trigger a review within hours, not at the end of a billing cycle. This loop has recovered real budget for clients — although we will not quote you a specific dollar figure without knowing your environment, it is not unusual for post-launch optimization passes to cut invocation costs materially on the first pass.
Iterate Loop — traffic patterns change. Business logic changes. A new feature adds a cold-start-sensitive path. The iterate loop catches drift before it becomes incident.
This model is the same one Facet has applied across digital transformation engagements for clients in professional services, B2B, property management, and healthcare — recognized in 2021 as a CIOReview Top 10 Digital Transformation Services Company.
AWS Serverless Development Services — Deep Capability
AWS Lambda remains the most mature and widely deployed serverless runtime, and it is where we have the deepest practice. Our aws serverless development services work covers:
- Event-driven microservices with Lambda and EventBridge for decoupled, auditable processing
- REST and GraphQL APIs via API Gateway with usage plans, throttling, and WAF integration
- DynamoDB table design for single-table patterns that avoid the hot-partition failures that catch teams off guard
- Step Functions orchestration for multi-step workflows that need retry logic, branching, and human approval gates
- Cost optimization through Graviton2/3 Lambda configurations, reserved concurrency planning, and Savings Plans analysis
We do not pretend AWS is always the right answer. If your team is already on Azure or GCP, we meet you there. If you are starting fresh, we will recommend based on your existing stack, your team's skills, and the honest tradeoffs — not on which platform pays higher partner margins.
What "Agentic Operating Partner" Means For Serverless
Facet's positioning is agentic operating partner, not delivery vendor. The difference is durable accountability.
A delivery vendor hands you a repo and an invoice. An agentic operating partner stays in the loop — literally. When your Lambda error rate climbs at 2 a.m. because a third-party webhook changed its payload shape, our monitoring catches it. When your DynamoDB read costs double in November because of seasonal traffic, our cost loop flags it before the billing cycle closes.
Our 500+ network of open-source, cloud, and data specialists means we can staff niche capability — Rust Lambdas for performance-critical paths, event sourcing patterns, CQRS on DynamoDB — without asking you to find that person on LinkedIn.
Serverless architecture is an operating discipline as much as a development pattern. We treat it that way.
Who This Is For
Scale-ready operators (COOs, VPs of Operations) who need apps that handle peak load without provisioning headroom that sits idle 22 hours a day. Serverless auto-scaling is the right fit — if you have a team keeping the cost loop honest.
Technical decision makers (CTOs, IT Directors) who want modern serverless architecture but do not have the in-house bandwidth to own cold-start tuning, IAM least-privilege hygiene, and infrastructure-as-code governance simultaneously.
Growth-stage founders who need production-grade reliability without the overhead of managing a full infrastructure team.
We have served clients ranging from law firms and medspas to B2B wholesale and property management — industries where operational reliability is table stakes and surprise downtime (or surprise invoices) are not acceptable.
Projects typically start at $6,000. Ongoing operating partnerships scale with scope. We do not publish fixed prices for serverless engagements because the right architecture depends on your traffic patterns, your existing stack, and your business objectives. An honest scoping conversation comes first.
Our Honesty Policy
We will not fabricate case study numbers. We will not guarantee a cost reduction we cannot support with your specific workload data. Where we use illustrative figures in this page — the invocation cost comparison, the p50/p99 example — we have labeled them as such.
What we can tell you: Facet has been operating in this space since 2014, has 23 verified Clutch reviews, and was recognized as a Top 10 Digital Transformation Services Company by CIOReview in 2021. We will tell you what we know, acknowledge what we do not, and give you a scoping opinion grounded in your architecture — not in a sales script.

FAQ
How much do serverless development services cost?
Costs depend on scope: a greenfield microservice on AWS Lambda looks different from migrating a monolith to event-driven serverless on Azure Functions. Initial projects at Facet typically start at $6,000. Ongoing monitoring and operating partnerships are priced based on the scope of functions, integrations, and desired SLA. We scope every engagement with an architecture consultation before quoting — that session is where we can give you an honest number.
Is serverless cheaper than traditional cloud hosting?
It can be, and it can also be more expensive if not managed. Serverless pricing is consumption-based: you pay per invocation, per GB-second of execution, and per request to managed services like API Gateway or DynamoDB. At low and variable traffic levels, this typically beats reserved instance pricing. At sustained high throughput, the math can flip. We model both scenarios during architecture design so you are not surprised either way.
Which cloud platform should I use — AWS, Azure, or GCP?
AWS Lambda is the most mature ecosystem for serverless, with the broadest tooling for event-driven patterns, step function orchestration, and DynamoDB integration. Azure Functions is the natural fit if your organization already runs Microsoft 365 and Azure infrastructure. GCP Cloud Functions and Cloud Run suit teams already in the Google ecosystem or needing tight integration with BigQuery and Pub/Sub. Our recommendation is always based on your existing stack and team skills, not platform preference.
What happens when something breaks in production?
This is the right question to ask before you hire anyone. Our monitoring loop instruments error rates, timeout thresholds, and cost anomalies in real time. Alerting is configured to reach our team, not just your inbox. When something breaks, we diagnose, communicate, and deploy a fix — we do not wait for your next sprint. If you want full incident response coverage, that is part of the operating partnership scope we define during onboarding.
